Aims:

This online course aims to provide dental nurses with knowledge and understanding to support clinicians when treating paediatric patients

Objectives:

During the programme the course provider will discuss:

  • Specific role of the dental nurse to support patient care
  • General, dental and regional anatomy and the relevance to patients' treatment needs
  • Fluoride & Plaque scoring
  • Paediatric specific dental procedures

 

Learning outcomes:

After this course delegates will be able to:

  • Confidently select appropriate evidence-based recourses to support their role working with children and young people.
  • Conduct a procedure to identify oral debris and use preventative techniques to encourage good oral health.
  • Apply knowledge to practice when applying high fluoride varnish to children and promoting good oral health.
  • Support the child patient through appropriate procedures.
  • Manage paediatric patients with special requirements and utilise support services where required.
  • Apply behaviour change techniques to encourage parents of young children to improve oral health. 
Information:

This course is aimed at dental nurses who are GDC registered and indemnified, able to attend all 6 x 3 hour online sessions and study independently. 

There are 18 hours of verifiable CPD attached to the course.


Delegates will be contacted by the course provider 2-3 weeks prior to the start date and will receive the link to the online platform and course workbook.


PLEASE NOTE: underpinning knowledge about measuring and recording plague and application of fluoride are covered in the course.  If delegates wish to gain clinical competencly in these areas it will be the responsibility of both the delegate and their employer to ensure they have an allocated workplace clinical supervisor/mentor and that they are suitably trained, competent and indemnified.
