Aims:
Update knowledge and clinical skills on management of dental trauma in children.
During the session the course provider will cover the following topics:
Epidemiology, diagnosis, classification and management of dental trauma in children
Practical experience of splint placement
Practical experience and tips in composite restorations for fractured permanent incisors using crown formers
Learning outcomes:
After this course delegates will be able to:
1. Identify and diagnose different types of dental trauma
2. Provide immediate management for dental trauma
3. Understand the long-term management and prognosis of each type of dental trauma

This course will be delivered by Professor Susan Parekh and Dr Nabih Alkhouri.
Susan Parekh is a Professor and Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at UCL Eastman Dental Institute and Hospital. She is the programme director of the blended learning MSc in Paediatric Dentistry, as well as deputy programme director of the 3 year full-time Clinical Doctorate in Paediatric Dentistry. Her main research focus is dental anomalies and she is past chair of the UK Clinical Excellence Network for enamel and dentine defects and has published articles and book chapters on anomalies. She has extensive teaching experience of management of dental trauma in children.
Nabih is an academic clinical lecturer ACL in paediatric dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute. He graduated in 2009 and gained an MSc in Paediatric Dentistry in 2013. Nabih has developed special interest in managing dental trauma in paediatric patients, in particular restorative and endodontic treatment. He accomplished his PhD at UCL in 2020 and carried on as an academic fellow and then a lecturer in the same specialty.
