Jodie Mahoney
Jodie has been working in dentistry since 2004, firstly qualifying as a dental nurse and then later attending Sheffield university to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy, graduating in the summer of 2009. After gaining experience in both private and NHS primary care, Jodie went on to further her career in teaching and mentoring. She gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in 2017 and has been leading the Midlands and East Dental Therapy Foundation Training Programme since 2014. She provides CPD courses to Dental Professionals in and around the Midlands region. Jodie started teaching undergraduate Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Birmingham in 2015 and sits of the GDC Fitness to practice panel.
Asha Thompson
Dr Asha Thomson MBE is portfolio dentist and holds formal roles within surgery, education and leadership. Asha holds a clinical role in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as a dentist currently undertaking her dual qualification in medicine after successfully securing a oral surgery speciality training post. She teaches undergraduate dental students at Kings College, London where she is a Senior Clinical Teacher in Oral Surgery and also a group lead for the clinical humanities module. She is a Senior Leadership Fellow with the Local Dental Networks in East of England where she supports the Local Dental Network chair in East Anglia and is a current cohort director for the London cohort at The Healthcare Leadership Academy and the co-president for the Barts and the London Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society. Asha also has a passion for resilience development and led and implemented, with the co-founders from the Dental Leadership Collaborative, the first clinical leadership resilience programme at Kings College, London in 2020 for undergraduate dental students. Asha has a wide range of experience of portfolio development from completing vocational training, dental core training, a fellowship and also securing a speciality training number in Oral Surgery, she also supervises dental core trainees within OMFS and mentors trainees with portfolio development.
Aims:
To provide dental hygienists and therapist with an open forum to discuss specific topics relating to clinical practice. This session will look at medical complications in dental practice.
