Speaker: Jodie Mahoney
Jodie has been working in dentistry since 2004, firstly qualifying as a dental nurse and then later attending Sheffield university to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy, graduating in the summer of 2009. After gaining experience in both private and NHS primary care, Jodie went on to further her career in teaching and mentoring. She gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in 2017 and has been leading the Midlands and East Dental Therapy Foundation Training Programme since 2014. She provides CPD courses to Dental Professionals in and around the Midlands region. Jodie started teaching undergraduate Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Birmingham in 2015 and sits of the GDC Fitness to practice panel.
Pre-course learning
Sessions will be facilitated by a Hygiene and Therapy Educator with case based discussion style seminars. Each study club will have a main topic for discussion which is driven by delegate need.

Aims:
To provide Dental Hygienists and Therapists with an open forum to discuss specific topics relating to clinical practice.
Course Objectives:
Outline the purpose and future vision for the study club.
Summarise current guidance on Dental Hygienists and Therapists working in the NHS, with regards to skill mix contract change.
Determine what is meant by “examination” and hoe to conduct one effectively and efficiently.
Learning outcomes:
Following the course you will be able to:
Apply knowledge gained during this session to clinical practice to benefit both patients and self-development.
Understand the changes to contracts within the NHS to enable better skill mix working environments.
Have gained insight and knowledge into other cases that peers bring to the study club, providing feedback and support.
