Speakers:

 

Laura Warrilow

 Laura graduated from the University of Bristol in 2016 and has worked in a range of GDP, CDS and OMFS posts before being appointed a Paediatric Dentistry speciality registrar post. As part of her training Laura is working across the CDS, Dental Hospital and the Children's hospital. She is a SAAD qualified sedationist and has a special interest in the management of anxious and additional needs paediatric patients. 

 

Thomas Evans

Tom graduated from the University of Sheffield  in 2014 and has worked in a range of Primary and Secondary care positions since, including leading the secondary care anxiety management dental service in Birmingham, before being appointed to a Special Care Dentistry Specialty Trainee Registrar post in Warwickshire. During this time he gained PGCerts in Anxiety management and conscious clinical sedation; as well as in Medical Education. He has practiced and taught inhalation and intravenous sedation to postgraduate dentists and dental nurses, and still continues to be an enthusiatic proponent of anxiety management in dentistry.

 


 



Aims:

 To understand dental anxiety and be able to apply some anxiety management strategies in practice 


Learning outcomes:

   

 During the session the course provider will:

 

  • Discuss  how anxiety and dentistry interact 
  • Discuss the options available for anxiety management for dental patients, and their limitations 
  • Discuss the role of secondary care in anxiety management 

Following the session the delegates will be able to:

  • Create an anxiety friendly atmosphere in their dental practice and have confidence to apply anxiety management and behavior modification techniques when treating patients.
