NORO29 Basic life support + Anaphylaxis + Defibrillator training

Information:

Candidates  must complete the full 4 hours taught time and pass all practical assessments.
Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for kneeling/lying on the floor. CPR must be demonstrated from a kneeling position on the floor.

Heather Sawyer Is the Director of HTS Training Ltd, an independent specialist first aid training company based in Bedford. She undertook her degree in Nursing at the University of Wales College of Medicine, graduating with honours in 1992. She specialised in Oncology and palliative care,undertaking post graduate studies in Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, subsequently working as a Macmillan nurse.

Heather has had a lifelong interest in first aid. She began training first  aid skills to the public whilst a  member of St John Ambulance Brigade and subsequently assisted running a division in Kent. 

Heather started commercially training first aid courses in 2006 and set up HTS Training in 2010. HTS Training run statutory first aid and related courses throughout the country. She personally delivers in excess of 100 courses a year  a large majority of which are in the dental sector.  She has also published an article in the Dentist magazine (2022) on medical emergencies.



Aims:

This course will ensure that the delegates understand the role and responsibilities of the dental team in the management of medical emergencies in accordance with UK Resuscitation medical protocols and GDC requirements.

Delegates will be able to effectively challenge a medical emergencies situation and confidently evaluate and promptly take the correct action to manage or resolve the event.

Demonstrate, through practical exercises and assessment the correct use of medical equipment including oxygen and an AED to support the treatment of the casualty

Demonstrate, through practical exercises, the correct assessment and management of anaphylaxis.


Learning outcomes:

Assess levels of consciousness and deal with an unresponsive casualty who is/is not breathing normally with practical use of O2 and an AED, working as a team at the scene of the incident.

Identify and effectively manage a range of medical emergencies with practical interventions and be able to correctly identify and use the medical emergencies equipment and drugs required by the Resuscitation Council/BNF.

Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking, recognise and assist a casualty who is unconscious but bleeding through practical application and assessment
