Aims:
This course will update delegates with the latest legislation, government guidance and emerging themes of safeguarding within the context of dentistry including a serious case review from the "Safeguarding in general dental practice".
Course objectives
Provide a comprehensive overview of the latest child safeguarding legislation and guidance relevant to the dental team.
Equip dental staff to use their professional and clinical knowledge to identify signs of child abuse or neglect.
Detail how concerns of child abuse should be managed within a multi-agency context.

Describe appropriately the signs and symptoms of the possible abuse or neglect of children and young people with whom they come into contact.
Explain which individuals, organisation and reference documents they should refer to and take advice from if concerned about a child or young person's well-being.
Outline how to evaluate risk when considering whether to request consent to share information about a child or young person with the statutory authorities.
