This session will be online via teams. Attendance will be taken at the start and end of the session and checked regularly throughout the session. Please be aware that you will be expected to join the call with a device that has camera and microphone access. You will receive an email one month before the course date. Speaker Biographies

Angie Heilmann

Angie has considerable experience in clinical dental nursing and dental nurse education.  Having worked in general dental practice in Scotland and England, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics.  Her clinical expertise is dental sedation nursing. Angie is Director of Dental Nurse Education for Antwerp Dental Academy.  She is responsible for growing the Academy’s training portfolio; developing courses that meet the GDC requirements and mentoring dental nurses. She also works in Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as Head of Health Inequalities and Inclusion, and the GDC, as a Registrant Council Member.  Previous roles include HEE Dental Workforce Development Regional Advisor and DCP Tutor. Various dental related committees both nationally and locally; working as an ambassador for dental nursing.  She has substantial experience in curriculum development and quality assurance.  Angie is a current Board Member of the Faculty of Dental Nursing and Orthodontic Therapy, College of General Dentistry (CGDent).  “I am Proud to have served the 2007-2009 term of office as President of the British Association for Dental Nurses. In recognition for my commitment to dental nursing, I was awarded the 2010 BADN Outstanding Contribution to Dental Nursing, receiving an MBE in 2012 for Services to Dental Nursing.”

Debbie Read

Debbie Reed is a dental nurse and a Reader (Associate Professor) in the Faculty of Medicine and Bioscience at Kings College London.  In 2020 Debbie was bestowed with the British Association of Dental Nurses’ Outstanding Contribution to Dental Nursing Professional Practice Award. In 2021 she was the inaugural recipient of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) Janet Goodwin Award for Leadership. In 2023 she was elected Fellow of College of General Dentistry (CGDent). Currently, Debbie is Chair of CGDent’s Dental Nursing and Orthodontic Therapy Faculty.

Jodie Mahoney

Jodie has been working in dentistry since 2004, firstly qualifying as a dental nurse and then later attending Sheffield University to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy, graduating in the summer of 2009. After gaining experience in both private and NHS primary care, Jodie went on to further her career in teaching and mentoring. She gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in 2017 and has been leading the Midlands and East Dental Therapy Foundation Training Programme since 2014. She provides CPD courses to Dental Professionals in and around the Midlands region. Jodie started teaching undergraduate Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Birmingham in 2015 and sits of the GDC Fitness to practise panel.
