Aims:
BED004 - Practical Basic Life Support
Course Aim:
To provide the delegate with sufficient information and practical instruction to undertake the responsibilities of a first aider in the practice in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) First Aid Regulations 1981 and the UK Resuscitation Council protocols.

Course Objectives:-
During the session the course provider will:
- Ensure that the delegates understand the role and responsibilities of the emergency first aider and be able to confidently assess a first aid incident in accordance with UK Resuscitation medical protocols
- Delegates will be able to effectively challenge a medical emergencies situation and confidently evaluate and promptly take the correct action to manage or resolve the eventy.
- Demonstrate, through practical exercises and assessment the correct use of medical equipment including oxygen and an AED to support the treatment of the casualty.
Learning Content:
Following the session delegates will be able to:
- Assess levels of consciousness and deal with an unresponsive casualty who is/is not breathing normally with practical use of O2 and an AED, working as a team at the scene of the incident - Identify and effectively manage a range of medical emergencies with practical interventions and be able to correctly identify and use the medical emergencies equipment and drugs required by the Resuscitation Council/BNF - Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking, manage a casualty with external bleeding who is in shock, minor injuries ie splinters and burns. all through practical application and end of course MCQ and practical assessment.

Speaker: Mark Brown
Biography: Following a 25 year career in the Army which included operational medical emergencies and mountain rescue first aid training, Mark established MBS2 to deliver a range of accredited CPD and professional training courses across a number of sectors including the dental profession. Mark worked as a NHS First Responder for 5 years, delivered catastrophic event training into the construction industry where he still acts as a consultant in Canary Wharf
