Dental DWD 22/23: IPS003 Paediatric Dentistry, restorative techniques re caries and trauma

Aims:

Aim to discuss the various approaches available to the clinician in managing dental caries in children

Course Objectives 

  • Describe various caries management techniques including the conventional approach of non-selective caries removal and pulp therapy, and minimal intervention dentistry including Hall Technique, silver diamine fluoride and selective caries removal. 
  • Discuss indications and contraindications of each technique and when it may be appropriate to use them.
  • Demonstrate pulptomy as well as placement of Hall Technique and Silver Diamine Fluoride on carious primary teeth.



Learning outcomes:

  • Explain the process of dental caries and the concept behind minimal intervention dentistry
  • Discuss challenges presented to clinicians in managing dental caries in children
  • Describe the evidence base behind each caries management technique and make informed decisions as to the most appropriate caries management technique for carious primary teeth in children.
  • Demonstrate how to carry out pulpotomy as well as place Hall Technique, and Silver Diamine Fluoride on carious primary teeth
