Dental trauma represents a significant challenge across both general practice and hospital settings, requiring clinicians to respond quickly, apply evidence-based care, and work collaboratively across services to achieve the best outcomes for patients. The management of these cases can often be complex, time-sensitive, and resource-dependent, highlighting the importance of shared learning, peer review and strong referral pathways.

Join colleagues from across the region for a focused day of learning, collaboration, and peer discussion on the management of dental trauma. With expert speakers, case-based learning, this event will strengthen knowledge, consistency, and confidence in both hospital and practice-based care helping us work together to deliver the best outcomes for patients.

Aims:

  • To provide an up-to-date overview of the NHS dental trauma service provision within the East of England.
  • To enhance clinicians’ knowledge and skills in the acute management of dental trauma in both hospital and practice-based settings.
  • To encourage consistent, evidence-based decision-making in diagnosis, triage, and management of dental trauma cases.
  • To support collaborative learning through case-based discussion, and peer review.
  • To strengthen professional networks across general practice, community services, and hospital-based care, improving patient pathways and outcomes.


Learning outcomes:

By the end of the study day, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the regional picture of dental trauma and understand current referral pathways and challenges.
  2. Recognise the principles of acute dental trauma management in both hospital and general practice contexts.
  3. Apply evidence-based guidelines to triage, assess, and diagnose common traumatic dental injuries.
  4. Discuss and evaluate different management approaches through peer review and table clinic case discussions.
  5. Reflect on their own clinical practice and identify areas for improvement in the management of dental trauma patients.
  6. Contribute to peer review exercises to support consistency of care across the network.
